Title: Noobs need a sticky for cryptography!! please!
Post by: AfricanBushDoctor on August 09, 2011, 11:50 am
Hello all,

I speak from experience, the whole PGP, GPG, OpenPGP, S/MIME is frightening for the beginner and more so because you are on SR...

I am sure that there are many prospective buyers and sellers that are turning away at the encryption point.
In the past 4 days I have used GPA, Kleopatra, Enigmail...  just the amount of info on the shallow side is daunting.

A layman's guide to all the terms and acronyms. And a review of software options. And a dedicated sub-forum for testing encryption skills.

Thanks

Yes there are 1000's and that happens to be half of the problem ~
The 'sticky' in this forum gives guidance with GPA, I now have 3
programs on my machine - I have settled for using enigmail, so far
it has worked fine...

BushDr I agree. I also agree that there's a point where it's too easy and every idiots kid is logging in spamming and making a mess. Maybe the middle compromise would be a simple glossary of relevant tools/ protocols. Many of the types that would make this place rock (broader selection/competition/etc) will never make it here until it's significantly easier to find their way in. So while we wait for someone to build a slick  one-click SR android/ios app (half-joking!), at least a simple guide in the form of a glossary would be great. The stakes are too high to be guessing at this stuff, which happens with self-directed, "experimental" learning.

GPA is the simpliest userfriendly Interface I've ever used.
